The Relationship between Self-Compassion and Psychological Well-Being and Perceived Competence among High School Students in Sari

Abstract
Background and Objectives: Self-compassion, as an important psychological construct, can play an effective role in reducing psychological pressures, increasing self-acceptance, and improving emotional adjustment. Therefore, the general objective of this research was to determine the relationship between self-compassion, psychological well-being, and perceived competence among high school students in Sari city.

Methodology: This study was applied in terms of its purpose and descriptive-correlational in terms of its method. The statistical population consisted of 3,786 female senior high school students in District 2 of Sari city. Based on the Krejcie and Morgan table, 356 students were selected as the sample using the stratified random sampling method.To collect data, the study used the Neff Self-Compassion Questionnaire (2003) with 26 items, the Ryff Psychological Well-Being Questionnaire (1980) with 18 items, and the Harter Perceived Competence Questionnaire (1985) with 27 items. The validity and reliability of the instruments were confirmed. For data analysis, Pearson correlation and path analysis were used..

Results: There is a positive and significant relationship between self-compassion and psychological well-being (r = 0.576) and perceived competence (r = 0.550) among high school students in Sari city.

Conclusion: The higher the level of self-compassion among students, the greater their psychological well-being and sense of competence.
